Komiyama Book Store 小宮山書店
A legendary four-storey vintage bookstore in the heart of Jimbocho, Tokyo's centuries-old book district. Founded in 1939, now run by the third generation. The ground floor draws you in with photobooks, fashion magazines, and design prints. Each floor up gets rarer and weirder — vintage posters, erotic and fetish art, cultural artifacts, 1980s manga, and an entire section dedicated to Yukio Mishima memorabilia at the top. It's worth going all the way up just to see how deep it goes.
The photography collection is the real draw: Daido Moriyama, Nobuyoshi Araki, and a deep bench of Japanese masters. If you're into Japanese tattoo culture, they carry books on irezumi and traditional tattoo art that are hard to find elsewhere. They also handle art prints and original works through their gallery next door.
A bit more tourist traffic than the other Jinbocho spots, but still a calm browse. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Closed Tue & Wed.
